HCA and Microsoft to Support “Innovation through Technology”

Innovation through TechnologyAt a time when the availability of the financial and material support that is so vital to community organizations is diminishing, HCA is teaming up with Microsoft Corp. to provide grants totaling $1.25 million in software and cash to help a number of nonprofit agencies in Middle Tennessee.

At a joint event held at Nashville's Downtown YMCA, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and HCA Chairman and CEO Richard Bracken announced the establishment of their "Innovation through Technology" grants, which will be awarded to agencies that focus on primary health, workforce development and youth and children.

"We have a strong, long-standing relationship with Microsoft," said Bracken, "and we're pleased to join them in providing Middle Tennessee community agencies advanced technology so they, like our caregivers, are better equipped to serve people in need."

Ballmer added, "Microsoft is committed to partnering with Hospital Corporation of America in order to help local nonprofits realize their full potential."

HCA has a long history of community involvement in the areas around all of its affiliate facilities, including in Nashville, where the company has its headquarters. Microsoft is no less dedicated to the people in and around Nashville; last year saw Microsoft making a significant software donation to the YMCA of Middle Tennessee to help enhance communication within the community and among its 600 workstations spread over 12 counties.

As of now, the recipients of the co-sponsored "Innovation through Technology" grants remain a secret, but they'll be announced on March 19. Be sure to check back then, and we'll let you know who the deserving organizations are.
