HCA’s employees recognize no boundaries when it comes to their dedication to the care and improvement of human life.
In response to the overwhelming desire to help the victims of last week’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, the company has established The HCA Haiti Relief Fund, which will accept donations from employees, physicians, facility volunteers or anyone else affiliated with HCA. The fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
Through the end of January, contributions and in-kind donations to the fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total contribution of $1 million. All cash donations to The HCA Haiti Relief Fund will go to such relief organizations as the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders.
Additionally, the East Florida Division, headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, is coordinating medical supply donations from HCA facilities across the country. In partnership with Food for the Poor, a South Florida relief organization, division personnel are currently collecting appropriate supplies and arranging for their delivery to the stricken area.
The employee-sponsored HCA Hope Fund — every penny of which goes to help employees in need — is currently exploring ways to help team members who have been directly affected by the tragedy.
While mindful of relief agencies’ advice that cash and supplies are more helpful right now than manpower, HCA is already looking ahead to a time when more clinicians and volunteers will be needed. All About Staffing, the company’s temporary staffing agency, is currently accepting the names of clinical and disaster-trained employees for future volunteer efforts once the immediate situation in Haiti has stabilized.
Moving forward, HCA will continue to monitor the situation and assess what more it can do to match available resources to needs. Right now, though, these efforts provide employees the means to act in accord with their collective compassion and caring spirit.
