This June, Encourage Employee Safety

Employee Safety Month CalendarThe days are still getting longer, Memorial Day's just around the corner and every teacher and school kid alike is counting down the days left in the school year. That means June is upon us, and at HCA, June has a special significance.

Each year we recognize the month of June as Employee Safety Month and take the time to promote the workplace safety of our employees — without a doubt our company's greatest asset! Working in a health care setting presents some unique workplace risks, and we like to focus on four particular areas that are potentially hazardous: slips, trips and falls; blood and body fluid exposures; patient handling; and materials handling.

One of the purposes of HCA's Employee Safety Month is to encourage discussion and raise awareness about workplace safety — not just among employees, but also across generations. That's why each year we sponsor an internal Employee Safety Children's Poster Contest. We urge our employees to talk to their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews about workplace safety and actions they take to work safe; then the youngsters are encouraged to be creative and put into pictures an example of workplace safety.

As in years past, the posters will be submitted as part of a contest, and the chosen entries will be bound into a calendar for 2010.

When the posters that will appear in the calendar have been announced, we'll be post them here. Until then, please be sure to keep safety at the forefront of your minds, whatever your workplace may be. And if you're interested in joining the safe working environment at any of our affiliate facilities, be sure to check out our career opportunities at HCA.RightJobOnline.com.
